- A proportional(P=Prop) controller decreases the average power
supplied to the heater as the temperature approaches setpoint.
This has the effect of slowing down the heater so that
it will not overshoot the setpoint,

-I=Integral(Auto reset) action gives the controller a large gain
at low frequencies that results in eliminating offset
and "beating down" load disturbances.
The controller phase starts out at –90 degrees and increases to
near 0 degrees at the break frequency.
This additional phase lag is what you give up by adding integral action.
Derivative action adds phase lead and is used to compensate for
the lag introduced by integral action.

- D=Derivative(Rate)With derivative action, the controller output is proportional to
the rate of change of the measurement or error.
The controller output is calculated by the rate of change
of the measurement with time.

Filled thermal systems can be of the following SAMA classifications:
SAMA Class I, Liquid Filled SystemsSAMA Class I systems are completely
liquid filled. The fill fluid is usually a hydro-carbon such as xylene
or ethylbenzene. The fill fluid should remain in the liquid
phase over the entire temperature range.
The vapor pressure of the fill fluid should be below the maximum pressure
of the filled thermal system at maximum temperature to prevent bubbles.
The fill fluid should never freeze or solidify because this
would change the calibration. Class I systems are subdivided as follows
:SAMA Class IA systems are fully compensated for ambient temperature changes.
This is accomplished with a second bourdon tube and capillary.
:Class IB systems are case compensated for ambient temperature changes at
the instrument case. This is usually accomplished with a bimetallic
mechanism in the case
Class IA: Liquid filled, uniform scale, fully compensated.
Class IB: Liquid filled, uniform scale, case compensated only.
